He's Just Not That Into You---The Book

So this weekend Sarah and I were feeling a little discouraged about the whole finding love thing so we decided to go to Borders 30 minutes before it closed to get a copy of He's Just Not That Into You. While the book has some good advice and concepts, I think there needs to be a mormon He's Just Not That Into You that takes sex out of the dating equation.

In the words of Cameron Diaz's character, Amanda, in The Holiday, "Sex makes everything complicated. Even the not having it, makes things complicated." Mormon dating doesn't involve having sex. Sex is for later, for when you have successfully played the dating game and found the person you are going to be with for eternity. So while the book is right that it is important to remember and know that if he's not asking you out, if he's not calling you, and if he's not dating you that...he's just not that into you, we just have to put all that info about sex aside.

Reading the book leaves you with a wide mixture of emotions, but ultimately, like the movie, what it tries to get at is that everyone deserves to be in a relationship where they are loved completely by the other person. That we are each good enough to be pursued by someone who wants us entirely. We owe that much to ourselves. And, that when it comes right down to it, when love is supposed to work out, it will. It's hard to believe, but I think we just have to...we have to have faith in love even when we can't see it or feel it.
